THE NEED TO FEED
OVERVIEW

1. Purpose of The Need to Feed
The Need to Feed (TNTF) was established during the first COVID-19 lockdown to provide support and
assistance to individuals and families within our community who are struggling or in need by providing,
surplus food, clothes and household goods donated by supermarkets, food outlets and members of the
public from across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan either by private arrangement, through the FareShare
initiative and the neighbourly scheme which was brought to our attention by The Knights Templar.
TNTF moto is “No judgement, free for all” TNTF is exactly what this moto states, there is no judgement of
circumstances or why an individual or family may need to use TNTF and it is completely free for all who use
TNTF. This means no drawn out paperwork to fill in, no requirement to show proof of benefits, no questions
asked about circumstances. The only requirement is for those using the service to sign a disclaimer when
collecting food stating; they are aware the food is close to, on or passing it’s sell by date, that once they
have taken control of the food it is their responsibility for the storage and consumption of the food and that
no money or payment has been taken by TNTF for receiving their donation.
TNTF also sources and collects surplus/donated clothes and goods for the purpose of distributing them to
homeless personnel, individuals/families currently being housed in refuge’s or individuals/families who are
vacating refuge’s into alternate housing who have no essential possessions to set up their new housing.
TNTF will also assist individuals/families who may be in financial difficulty and require replacement
appliances or emergency assistance with Gas and/or Electricity those who would otherwise be without gas
or electricity to maintain their household.

2. Main Objectives of TNTF

2.1. Collect Surplus food, clothes, and household goods for the benefit of those within our communities
who may require this support.

2.2. Maintain an emergency fund solely for the purpose of providing emergency gas and/or electric
payment to personnel who may otherwise be going without this basic commodity to maintain their
household.
Note: no actual funds will be given to recipients, a member of TNTF will organise and make
payment to facilitate the recipients needs whilst maintaining a correct procedure of financial
distribution (i.e. receipts for payment of gas/electric and recipients acknowledgement and signature
to confirm they have received the support service).

2.3. Provide support to local schools and organisations by providing, nurture boxes or food parcels that
will directly support children, veterans, families, or individuals in need or who are in crisis.

2.4. Network, fundraise and promote for TNTF service, enabling the TNTF to grow and provide support
to more communities within South Wales without gain or profit to TNTF staff, volunteers, or
Trustees.

3. Summary
The Need to Feed was voluntarily set up during a time of difficulty and uncertainty the whole nation was
facing with COVID-19. Its aim was/is to help support those who were/are struggling. TNTF will continue to
provide its support to our local communities, without judgement, without seeking profit, in a bid to ensure
everyone within our communities has access to basic essentials and can live without fear of where their
next meal is coming from or how they can provide for their families.
